Sun Fun

Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango and Kiwi Kiss say Summer to me.  Knowing these colours will be retiring at the end of this month I just had to play with them today. 

 

After creating this sunny card I'm inspired to make a scrap page with the same combination of colours and the "Life's a Breeze" stamp set.  If you like this very seasonal set you've got to order it before the end of June when it retires.  The In-Colours that I used in this card retire this month too.   I'll miss them but luckily I have a small, secret stash so I can play with them when I wish.

In-Colour Sneak Peek

You can't imagine my excitement when, arriving home from our holidays I found two (two) Stampin' Up! boxes waiting for me!!!  I knew one was full of my NEW catalogue pre-order treats and you wouldn't believe the restraint I exercised.  I made myself unpack and put on a load of laundry before ripping that box open. 

I've finally had time today to play with my new stamps, ink and paper.  But.... before I show you my first playful efforts I'll give you a peek at the gorgeous, New In-Colours.

When I first looked at them I placed them in two categories "Summer Colours" and "Fall Colours" but then, after playing with them a bit, I found this to be so unfair.  These colours are so complex that they change with whatever is placed next to them.  It's so much fun to play with them!

Here's a colour comparison so you can get an idea of this new palette.

 

This Soft Suede (on top) is a green brown and reminded me of another In-colour so I went poking around for a sample to show you.  Check it out below.

 

The NEW SOFT SUEDE seems most similar to River Rock.  I'm so glad!  I can't wait to try Soft Suede with  Rose Red or Bravo Burgundy.

DUSTY DURANGO is a terrific orange somewhere between Ruby Red and Really Rust.

 

BERMUDA BAY is a little greener than Tempting Turquoise and Taken with Teal.

 

CRUSHED CURRY is a bright, warm yellow.

 

MELON MAMBO is a beautiful pink deeper than any others we have and closest to Rose Red but lighter.

 

RICH RAZZLEBERRY is the most unique colour in the bunch.  We really don't have anything very close.  Here it's photographed beside Bravo Burgundy and Elegant Eggplant.

New Colours and Goodies

Oh boy, just as I had decided that I couldn't love any In-colours more than this year's colours, my pre-catalogue order arrived and I got a really good look!  Whew!  You won't believe how gorgeous they are!

Here's a sneak peek at the New, delightful, In-Colours:

Baja Breeze, Pacific Point, Pink Pirouette, Riding Hood Red, Kiwi Kiss & my favourite, Tangerine Tango!

I have to say, I wasn't looking forward to seeing another shade of pink but this one is just so beautiful and soft!  I can see a future room in this colour.

Even better, my box had this wonderful new punch inside!  I am so glad I ordered it.  Be on the lookout for a future tutorial featuring this nifty little guy!

Now as soon as our little visitor is down to sleep tonight I'm off to play with my new toys and finish up my Wedding invitations. 

I am so hyped to get to convention now!  I can hardly wait... I know we'll be seeing so many neat new project ideas and learning new techniques that I can share with you so... you can see why I'm just about bursting with excitement.

Wonderful You

Certainly Celery and Chocolate Chip are such a lovely combination.  Both cool and warm, it seems to suit this "Wonderful You" image to a T.  This is a quick masculine card that's easy to assemble.

Though it's a different layout I've used the same image and added a splash of Only Orange to this card to give it a different feeling.  I love the first card yet find this second colour combination cheery.

Inspiration from Home Outfitters

I've been saving this Home Outfitters Bag for a while now and happened to glance at it the other day when I was pondering a card concept.  It was just the thing to inpire this colour combo and layout.

Don't you just love the pop these Bold and Bright colours have?

Recipe: Zoofari Stamp Set, Cardstock: Brilliant Blue, Only Orange, Geen Galore, Tempting Turquoise, Whisper White, Night of Navy, Ink: Stazon black, markers, Green Galore, Tempting Turquoise and Only Orange.  No greeting yet, cause I like to leave my options open but I can see...thinking of you, you're one of a kind or a birthday celebration being featured on this one.

Garden Inspiration

It must be the great gardening spring weather that has me inspired to create floral cards today.  This first card is from a Splitcoast challenge to use Blush Blossom, Groovy Guava, Only Orange and Grey.  A combination I can't say I'd try without a push.  What do you think?

Recipe: Doodle This Stamp Set, Floral Background Stamp, Ink: Basic Gray, Other: Dazzling Diamonds, Crystal Brad.  Below is a closeup where I was hoping you would see the glitter... hmm... Really, it's there!

This second card has been calling me for quite a while now and with today's rain pulling me out of my garden I got the time to put it together.

Recipe: Time Well Spent Hostess set, Print Pattern Background Stamp, Cardstock: Barely Banana, Basic Gray, Cardstock Vellum, Whisper White (Inside), Ink: Craft Black, Barely Banana Classic, Markers: Barely Banana, Going Gray, Pretty in Pink, Other: Dazzling Diamonds (on Vellum) Dimentionals.

Hope you like my garden inspired floral cards today.  I think I might stamp the bottom half of this card with the Print Pattern background stamp as well.  What do you think?  Sometimes enough is enough.

Colour Inspiration

Wow!  Ottawa just had a summer day!  My neices and nephews were running through sprinklers on a brown lawn that just last week had more than a foot or two of snow on it.  Hard to believe!  My yard, surrounded by huge pine trees and and cedar hedges still has a few piles of snow in it and our pool has floating ice but boy, spring has arrived with the power of summer.

I was shopping for a new bedspread for Kayla when this colour combination attracted my attention.  Miss Kayla loves bright greens and orange.  Well, this is one half right and It really looks fresh to me.  It inspired me to put Certain Celery, close to Cocoa and Bashful Blue together in today's card.

I let the circles and stripes influence my final product too.

 

Playing with my new set "Pun Fun" and with "Seeing Spots" which helped to replicate the circle effect on the bed spread I came up with this.  In real life the Certain Celery, Close to Cocoa and Bashful Blue cardstock match the bedspead perfectly.  My card says "Purrrfect! and the "Thank You" comes from the stamp set "Circle of Friendship" aptly continuing the circular theme.  Classic ink used was the same as the cardstocks.  A Bashful Blue marker was used to colour in the cat.

Tuxedo Cards Revisited

I finally got around to recapturing the classic black and white of Tuxedo cards.  A while ago I posted these cards by Cynthia and promised to show you my latest efforts.  Why don't you break out a set you haven't used in a while and try it in basic black and whites for a new look?

This floral card features the Sale-A-Bration set "Friendship Blooms" and "One of a Kind" from the Spring and Summer Catalogue.  Though you can't see it in this photo, I embossed all the flowers and in real life they just shine.

I haven't used "Polka Dots and Paisley" for quite a while and so I dusted it off to make this card.  I used the polka dot stamp to dress up the white grosgrain ribbon used here.  I thought about stamping white dots on the black ribbon but then remembered .... less is more.... and stopped myself.

 

You may recognize this card layout from a post I made here on March 3rd.  I purposely tried this card in black and white to see how the colour, or lack thereof, affected the outcome.  What do you think?  Which one do you like more?

Featuring the set, "Always"  this tuxedo card seems to remain a happy card.  Perhaps it's the flowers.  Maybe it's the popped up flower and ribbon, covering my black fingerprint in the upper right hand corner of the main image.  Did you know, necessity is the mother of creativity too?

This final card is a CASE of a fellow demonstrator, Marie Kirkwood's swap card from the 06-07 catty swap.  Her card was a Thank You card so I switched it up and found all my current Happy Birthday stamps to put a twist on it.

I hope you find these cards inspirational and give this quick and effective Tuxedo card a try.  It's great when you don't have a lot of time because you limit your choices and then things flow faster.

COLOUR INSPIRATION

A LITTLE INSPIRATION GOES A LONG WAY...

Have you ever gone to your Stamping Pad only to find you don’t seem to be able to produce anything that makes you happy? Sometimes a little colour inspiration gets the creative juices going.

We all occasionally hit the wall creatively and that was what happened to me when I was playing with my new stamp set, “One of a Kind”. I love the stamp set but needed some inspiration so I began to look through my beautiful Stampin’ Up! Double Sided Designer Papers that  hubby gave me for Christmas. My eye caught this spring-like combination above (Le Jardin) and I was off to the races!

I gathered my cardstock , ribbon and accessories and began stamping.

Here is the card which I designed for a New Catty Swap with other demonstrators.

If you like these Spring Colours you may want to use them in a project.

Below, I used the same set and colour combination in this card that my Stamper's Six made this past Sunday.  It's not the best photograph but does show the Build-A-Brad that we stamped and added to the double layered flower.  The paper on the front is from Le Jardin Designer Papers.

Just playing with colour combinations can stir up your creative juices so be sure to check out  the Colour Combos Button in my left sidebar and play for a while. This is an amazing source of inspiration and you don’t even have to cut up any cardstock to enjoy trying out new colour combinations. I use this tool when I want to push myself out of my comfort zone.
