Beautiful Gift Boxes by Carole Lee

Introducing Carol Lee Cowan...a creative designer par excellance!  What a joy it was to meet Carol Ann at the Spring Fling a few months ago.  She not only creates beautiful things, but shares her designs too!  You can imagine my delight when I found out she's married to a friend of mine from highschool days!

 

I caught this picture while Carol was demonstrating how she makes her boxes from templates.  What a gorgeous smile!  It's obvious she enjoys sharing her hobby and getting other people hooked too!

Below you can take a peek at some of the detailed art work she shared with other stamping enthusiasts this past spring.

 

Totally created with the Petal Punch this is the most gorgeous flower I've seen made!  Carol Ann went a step beyond and ran each petal throught the big shot using the Finial Press texture embossing folder, sponged ink on each piece before assembling and finally added glitter with a glue pen!  I'm so smitten with this that I'm actually ordering this punch.  I now MUST have it!

 
 
This quick shot gives you a peek at a few different size and styles of Carol Ann's boxes.  LOVE, love, love the embelishments and atttention to layers and colours that are part of everything Carol Ann creates!

 
More tiny boxes made with tons of love.  I think each of these has embossing on top of embossing.  Just Yummy to look at!  Notice how Carol Ann layered the embossed flowers on the yellow box above. 
These Top Note die boxes show care and attention to decorate in a layered fashion and as your eye explores you find differnt ways that Carol Ann makes her images pop with brads or glitter.  Just delicious Eye Candy, I say!!!

 

Just in case you imagine that Carol Ann just runs her boxes all quickly through the big shot... think again.  Here she is demonstrating how to create different sized boxes using a bone folder and scoring tool.

Petal Cone Party Favours

Yesterday I got time to play with some of my treasures from the NEW Occasions Mini Catalogue and Oh-Yes ... I found I've got my Mojo back.  

With Family Festivities, Valentine's Day, Easter, Weddings and Showers in the future I desided to purchase the versatile Petal Cone Biz Die and boy am I glad!

 

What a neat party favour this litte cone can create.  Open or closed it holds quite a bit and can sit at the table as a name marker and hold a treat too.

 

From the side, closed up tight and topped with a scalloped punched carnation , Springtime Vintage designer paper and a variety of ribbons. 

And .... with just a few tweaks the same big shot die can make the little heart basket below.

 

Two very different gift packages from one die... terrific I say!

Christmas Jingle

I don't know about you but when the Santa Claus parade hits the road I get that itch to get busy and create the magic that is Christmas.  And in case you weren't aware, the Santa Claus parade is this coming to Ottawa this weekend!!!  Hand made gifts are always a big part of what we do to make gift-giving special in our family sooo, of course I've been thinking about what we could make this year.   

 This past weekend I was at a Holiday Hoopla event where we made the following items from only a small part of a Christmas Jingle Scrap Kit.  Stampin' Up!'s scrap kits are amazing and provide wonderful coordinating products for scrapping but did you know they could also be adapted to make cards and gifts?  With just a bit of ribbon you can use the Self Adhesive die cuts, designer papers and textured cardstock to create these projects and many more.

More Christmas boxes

Just as promised, but a few days late, you're getting an early visit from the man in red!  Hope you enjoy them.

With just a few punches you can bring this "Clause" to your home today!  Punches needed: 1 3/4" circle, half-inch circle, Scallop Circle, Modern Label,  and Trio flower.  Cardstock: Real Red, Whisper White, Basic Black, Going Gray, and Blush Blossom.

Here's how I finally decided to finish off my Christmas Tree box.  Stamped in real red the bird image from "Season of Friendship" is  a cheerful addition to it. (If I dssm).

Big Shot Boxes and Scrap Club

I have to say, I'm really enjoying my Sizzix Big Shot!  Last week I received my pre-order from the new Occasions Mini catalogue and I couldn't stop playing with my Matchbox Bigz Die.  Last Sunday morning I made these sweet little treat boxes for my Scrap Club members.

After filling them up I finished them off super-quick with just a ribbon or tag.  Check out some of the final results.

 

I just love this textured designer paper PARISIAN BREEZE SPECIALTY.  (pg.158 #113993) It's beautiful and a bit heavier than our regular designer papers so of couse I used it for almost all my boxes.

Though these layouts are not complete you can see that each scrapper puts their own spin on our circle page.

 

Kim took time to cut out select pieces of the Raspberry Tart D.P.  making it really flow and lead your eyes into the photo space. 

 

Laura did a beautiful job with her cutting as well and put her "stamp" on the page by dying Pretties to match our colour scheme.  I really love the soft look of these pretties!

Lots of "Bling" on these flowers really makes them stand out!  Another detailed cutting job brings your eye into this floral circle.  Beautiful Pam!

I can't wait to see the finished products.  The ladies often bring photos to finish their pages at class but sometimes these go home to get completed.  Below is a beautiful completed page from a past class.

Get Scrappin' and Stampin'

Scallop Table Treat Box

It appears there's nothing like a rest to spark creativity and no end to the fun I'm having today!!!  In an attempt to design an Easter Box or basket that might be a table place marker I decided try one made from the Big Shot scallop circle Bigz die.  I think it's the perfect size and since I just punch them out myself I can decide on a colour scheme and make them all the same.  We have an extended family of over 25 people that could be coming for Easter brunch so this box would also be cost effective as well as attractive.

 

The scallop Bigz die has 30 scallops around the circle so this basket has a bottom that is 3 scallops wide and the ends were scored to include 9 scallops.  This will make sense to those of you who have downloaded my instructions for the Carousel Note Box.  Check my last post to get them if you haven't already.  It would be super easy to add a handle on each end of this little box to make it look more like an Easter basket.

 

By adding a note on the end of this basket it would easily sit on a plate and mark someone's spot.  Hmm with this shape of a note it looks a bit like a cradle... no?  What a mood I'm in today!

Carousel Boxes and Instructions

I'm really on a roll these days.  Your interest has inspired me to try yet another style of box with the Carousel Notes.  After preparing directions for my Easter Basket I couldn't resist trying yet another box.  Below is my latest one ready for a Hostess Appreciation Gift but it could easly sit on a dinner table filled with treats.  

This box was really quick and fun to create.  Once you've read my directions for previous boxes I think you'll be able to figure this one out too.  (This one is scored at every sixth scallop around the circle.)

Carousel Note Easter Basket

I couldn't wait to try this scallop box again and this time put an Easter spin on it.  I also changed the way I put it together and find it even easier to do. 

 

Below is a view of the other side where I did a little hole punching.  Not sure which side I like the best.  You also get a view of the end of the box which I finished a little differently this time.  Instead of scoring and pinching the corners of the box inside, I made a cut and used double sided sticky strip to hold the box together.  You may notice that I also attached the handle at the same time. It's tidy and strong.

Scallop Note Basket

 Don't you just love days off!!!  I can't believe I'm alone in the house...it's so strangely quite, but inspiring just the same.  Apparently that's all I needed to come up with this tidy little idea.  When I entered my stamping room this morning my eyes fell on a few remaining scallop notes that I had sitting on top of a pile in my work space.  Perhaps because Easter is approaching or because I've been whipping up little gift boxes for my scrapping club I got this neat idea (if I do say so myself).  I'm so excited that it actually worked! 

 

Quick to make with just a few simple score lines, I think this would look great with a handle as well.  That'll be my Easter creation.  I can't wait to try it!!!

After first trying to close this little box with double sided sticky strip, this side view gives you a good look at how I finally got the folds to stay in place.   I really couldn't believe that the sticky tape didn't work - this project is a first for me in that department.  Maybe because the folds are small and the tape pieces had to be tiny. 

Tools needed for this project:

Scoring tool (I used a scorepal), Trio Flower punch, Large Oval punch, Crop-A-Dile or 1/8 "punch, Scallop Oval punch, Oval All stamp set (last two available in April from our Occasions mini catalogue), and Piercing tool.  Cardstock:  Pixi Pink, Whisper White, Kiwi Kiss Scallop Note and duo beads

In the photo below I hope you can see how I scored the scallop note to make this basket...

 

...'cause after trying to write clear instructions for this basket I've decided that counting the scallops between my score lines is the easiest way to figure this out.   Let me know if that doesn't work for you and I'll either draw up instructions or make a tutorial.

Holiday Treat Boxes

What fun we had the other evening making a variety of great boxes.  The most fun though comes after the actual box is made...Embelishing!  Have a peek at a couple of 2-4-6-8- boxes and a snowflake explosion box.

I forgot to take a shot of the snowflake explosion box open but will do that tomorrow and show it open.  What a fun table treat or jewlery box this one is!  In Whisper White cardstock stamped in Brilliant Blue snowflakes from "Snow Swirled" stamp set it is topped with a Brilliant Blue lid.  A 3-D snowflake, made so easily with the Sizzix Big Shot and the Snowflakes die, adds just extra personality.  The lid is finished off with a ribbon slider and white grossgrain ribbon.   I can't wait to show you how this box opens!

The two 2-4-6-8- boxes in the above photo are both simply pinched and closed with a tied ribbon.  I used the Crop-A-Dile to punch holes through all 4 sheets of folded paper oh so easily.  The Mellow Moss box was tied with Mellow Moss satin ribbon and topped with three flowers punched from Real Red and Always Artichoke card stock with a 5 petal punch.  Three gold brads join the flowers and magically create the look of a poinsettia!  A strip of designer paper from the "I Wish" Scrap Kit adds a warm touch of color to this box and to the Real Red box as well.  The Real Red box is finished off simly with bow in Chocolate Chip ribbon.

These little boxes are going to hold gifts for the girls in my life.  (jewels of course.)  But the others I have in my stamp room are still works-in-progress and need a touch of lovin' to be ready for your eyes.
